The Dix E Hix band is always busy providing music and entertainment to various local groups. The band, all members of AIMS (Accordion International Music Society) Santa Barbara, includes: Elliott Karpeles-violin, Steve Spier-guitar, Nena Quiros-accordion, Howard Howe-accordion, and Bob Wightman on accordion, violin and banjo. They have performed at the Maritime Museum, at many retirement homes, and for several fund raising events. Specifically, this has been the fourth year that they have played at the “Empty Bowls Santa Barbara” event, where over $140,000 has been raised each of the last four years to support the local Food Bank. They have performed for the Artizan’s Ball -A Night in Gay Paris, a fund raiser for Sarah House. But the band’s stellar moment came when they were hired by the Christmas Revels to perform at the Lobero Theatre for four shows. The event was called “A Bavarian Christmas” and they were given the name, “Die Biergarten Musikmeisters”. In addition to the four shows, there were six hours of practice and a dress rehearsal. All agreed that it was tiring, but what an experience.
